The Philosophy

Stifle's scoring system is designed to reward intentional breaks from your phone while making it impossible to game the system. You can't just sleep your way to the top.

The Basics

Lock Your Phone = Start a Streak

Every time you lock your phone, you begin a "streak." The timer starts counting.

Minimum 10 Minutes

Streaks shorter than 10 minutes don't count. This prevents gaming the system by rapidly locking/unlocking.

Unlock = End Streak, Earn Points

When you unlock your phone after 10+ minutes, your streak ends and you're awarded points based on how long you stayed away.

The Curve

Points aren't linear. We use super-linear growth that rewards longer focus sessions:

  • Sub-linear early: The first 10-60 minutes ramp up from 0.5 to 1.0 points per minute
  • Super-linear middle: From 1-4 hours, you earn 1.0 to 1.5 points per minute (peak efficiency)
  • Soft cap later: After 4 hours, growth slows to logarithmic (diminishing returns)

Key insight: One 60-minute session (60 pts) beats two 30-minute sessions (23 + 23 = 46 pts). The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

360 points (peak: 1.5 pts/min)

These are calculated from the actual scoring algorithm.

Weekly Competition

Scores reset every Monday at midnight in your timezone. This gives everyone a fresh start each week and keeps the competition fair.

You can compare your score against:

  • Your friends (leaderboard)
  • Your personal best week
  • Your average week
  • Last week's performance

Groups

Create or join groups to compete with specific sets of friends. Each group has its own leaderboard. You can be in multiple groups at once.

Ghost Mode

If you want to track your own progress without appearing on leaderboards, enable Ghost Mode in settings. Your friends will see you as "Anonymous" on the leaderboard.
